A few weeks ago I got to meet this sweet family at their gorgeous East Nashville Home. Baby Owen was so amazing and relaxed for his session and I had a great time getting to know his parents. Mom Emily is a pediatric dentist and she graciously put up with my many questions since my own crew was a few days away from their first checkup. It was so awesome to photograph these beautiful spaces and I hope to see this family again soon!

I was so excited when Katie contacted me abut a newborn session for her baby daughter. She is an extremely talented calligrapher and runs Bunny and Bear Paper, and it just so happens that she is the creator of my lovely logo! She also designed a stunning tattoo that lives on my husband’s shoulder forever, so to say I admire her talent is an understatement.

It was no surprise that when I arrived at their apartment that it was so thoughtfully styled and wonderfully decorated. I am so lucky to get to photograph gorgeous spaces like their’s! These are just a few of my favorites from their session. Hallie is such a beautiful baby and I hope to get to photograph her again soon!

2016 was a pretty amazing year for me when it comes to lifestyle film newborn photography sessions. I love love love these sessions and I’ve been so fortunate to be able to shoot such amazing families and houses. Coincidentally, three of my favorites for the year were all of baby boys named Henry! This sweet baby Henry came a little bit earlier than anticipated and was such a sweet little squish.

Are you expecting? Click here to chat with me about a newborn session for your baby!

Paige (Henry’s mom) and I had discussed her visions for the session in the months prior to his arrival, and I was completely in awe of their Clarksville, TN home when I arrived. The decor was so beautiful and every room was spotless, which Paige tells me was all thanks to grandma who stayed to help them during Henry’s first days. The best surprise was when I walked in to Henry’s nursery. WOW. Seriously, one of the most gorgeous spaces I have ever seen. It was so clear that Paige put so much time and thought into every detail of the room and it was so serene and calming. Even the book on Henry’s shelf ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ had significance as it is an homage to their last name.

I have said it so many times before, but I really do love photographing lifestyle film newborn sessions at my client’s homes. Newborn sessions take a while, and babies this young usually eat somewhat constantly and need frequent breaks. Everyone is still healing, and it is so much nicer for mom and dad not to have to pack everything up and try to be somewhere on time. Plus you get to include your environment, which is so much a part of the memories of your first days together as a family.

I had a wonderful time photographing this session and I hope to see this family again soon!

A few months ago I had the pleasure of photographing another family session for my friend Courtney.

I photographed their family last year, and since then they have moved to the MOST charming, historic homestead you’ve ever seen. Courtney’s husband Luke is a musician for the band for KING & COUNTRY, so it was awesome to catch them all at home, as they’re so frequently out of town for tour dates and other events these days.

To give you a little bit of backstory, Courtney and I became friends a long time ago. We grew up in the same part of South Florida and were church choir buddies. I can tell you from years of knowing her that she LOVES coffee and emojis and has had just about every hair color there is. She is wild and free at heart and has an enigmatic spirit that makes everyone drawn to her.

We lost touch for a bit after high school, but both of us ended up living in Nashville as adults, and having baby boys within months of each other (twins in my case). One night when I was exceedingly desperate to connect with another living soul outside of my own four walls, I reached out to her on social media to see if she would like to get together for a mom-date.

Since then we have gotten together for mom-dates and baby-parties, trips to lunch, and then eventually playdates. We both got pregnant within months of each other the second time around, again with boys. Crazy.

SO much has happened with her family in the time since we have reconnected. Luke’s band has become increasingly successful, and in 2013 he almost died after an extreme flare of ulcerative colitis. He thankfully is doing much better now. After he started to recover, he and Courtney recorded a duet about the experience. She invited me to one of their shows last year at the Ryman Auditorium and I was lucky enough to see them perform it together live. It was beautiful.

Have some tissues ready!!!

During their session we photographed them inside their home, and spent a good bit of time in their garden, which I have to say is REALLY impressive. While we were out there, we came across some big, fuzzy caterpillars on Courtney’s tomatoes, so she brought her boys Jude and Phoenix over to take a look and see if they wanted to hold them. Luke pointed out that they were going to ruin the plants and she just shrugged and said, “It’s all good! We all help each other.” and put the little caterpillar back on the plant.

THAT is Courtney in a nutshell.

We also stole a few minutes to get some photos of Courtney and Luke alone, and it started raining a bit with the sun still out and it was just magical!

Courtney, it was so good to see you so happy in your new, old, perfectly cozy home. I had the best time and hope to see you guys again soon!

——————————————————-

P.S. Chivalry is been something that Luke and his brothers have been championing at their shows; that women (and all people) matter and that they are to be honored and respected. This weekend they released a movie born from those efforts. It is called PRICELESS, and it addresses the subject of human trafficking. I would love it if you would show your support and visit http://PricelessTheMovie.com and go see it in a theatre near you!

This at-home photo session of the Ward family took place in their Murfreesboro, TN home. Mom Autumn had a great vision for how she wanted her portraits to look, and she even painted her bedroom white while 8 months pregnant (!) because she loves a light and bright look. Baby Henry came a bit sooner than planned, but was thankfully perfectly healthy and precious as can be.

I LOVE doing newborn sessions at clients homes. It is so much more relaxing for everyone, especially since newborn sessions can be a bit time consuming. This family also has a toddler, and it was great for big brother to come and go as he pleased and hop in photos when he felt like it. When he got tired he could wander into the kitchen for a snack and we just easily shifted gears into photos with mom and dad or baby alone.

From Autumn:

“Leanne came into our home, put us all at ease and was so gracious with us being a little out of sorts due to the recent arrival of our second son— we had been home less than a week when we had her capture our family. We are so so so pleased with our family & newborn session. Thank you Leanne!”

Looking for a newborn photographer? Contact me here and let’s talk about taking some stunning photos of your precious bundle!

Where do I even begin with this session? Basically, it was a dream.

Newborns have a very, very special place in my heart. Lifestyle sessions are also some of my favorites, so this session was just the BEST.

As if a precious newborn lifestyle session wasn’t enough to make me go bananas, mom Kim is STUNNING. So, so gorgeous. I seriously could not take a bad photo of her, AND she is so incredibly nice. She made me lunch while I was in their home and was so helpful. Kim is also a local photographer so I was honored to take these photos for her!

We started outdoors since the light was so soft and beautiful that morning. Then, went in for some lifestyle shots and solo images of baby Henry. This session was right around 4 hours long, which many people don’t realize is pretty typical for newborn sessions. I like to really take my time, make sure there are plenty of breaks for feedings – which Baby Henry definitely needed. He ate about every 30 minutes to an hour (poor mama!).

Kim rented an AMAZING dress from Rent the Runway, and after the lifestyle portion of the session was finished, she was able to change back into comfy clothes and kick back and relax.

I adore these kinds of sessions and I hope there are many, many more like it to come!

Fine Art Senior Photography

It’s that time… senior portrait deadline time!

Senior sessions have TOTALLY changed in recent years. Now there are all sorts of creative senior photo ideas out there, especially for girls. I’ve seen themed sessions from a different time period, re-creations of magazine shoots, and entourages of hair stylists, makeup artists and costume designers on hand for the day. If you are going to take senior photos, you might as well make it fun!

Interested in a senior session? Click here to contact me now!

But what about the senior guy in your life who prefers to keep things simple? Chances are all he cares about is making sure his senior photos aren’t embarrassing in a few years. And if he is like most senior boys I know, he would frankly rather not do senior portraits at all thank-you-very-much.

Wondering about my portrait photography pricing? Click here to read about how I price portrait sessions or click here to fill out the questionnaire and get started building your custom session.

Classic is ALWAYS in. Creativity comes in many forms, like the outfits you choose and the locations you shoot at. Having a simple, timeless senior portrait session doesn’t mean your photos can’t stand out from the crowd. It DOES mean having photos that you will love forever.

Courtland wanted exactly that. He lives in a very small, rural town and so most of his friends all get their photos taken in the same places. He wanted to incorporate originality by choosing locations he hadn’t seen anyone use before. His sister Kennedy came along to crack jokes and keep him relaxed, and together we had a great time wandering around town looking for awesome locations for his senior photoshoot.

As any mother does, I love taking photos of my own kids. Since it is summer, we have taken lots of photos of the boys outside recently, so I wanted to change it up and do something I love doing for clients that we hadn’t done yet – a lifestyle photo session.

Since all sessions are more fun for kids when they have something to do (and snacks always help!) baking cookies seemed like an obvious choice! We have lots of M&Ms around lately since we just finished potty training, so we made some yummy M&M cookies.

The boys love to help with everything at this age and they had so much fun. You should definitely these cookies out if you get the chance, they were delicious!

The recipe was adapted from Pretty Simple Sweet and Alton Brown’s chewy cookie recipes. The secret is melted butter, plenty of brown sugar (the darker the better), and only using the yolk of the second egg. Also, chill the dough or the cookies will spread.

Fun M&M Cookies

Yields 16-24 cookies

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour (bread flour is even better if you have it)

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1.5 sticks of butter, melted

1/2 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar (the darker the better)

1 large egg

1 egg yolk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup M&Ms

Directions:

Melt the butter over low heat. set aside.

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined. Whisk in the egg, yolk, and vanilla extract. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until well combined, but don’t over-mix.

Chill the dough for at least 2 hours or overnight (nap time was our perfect chilling opportunity). Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Scoop rounded dough onto prepared baking sheet (parchment paper might be a good idea, but I didn’t use any). Bake between 12-18 minutes depending on the size of your cookies. Cookies are done when they just start to brown on the edges.

Cool, eat, and store leftovers (if there are any) in an airtight container.

Arrington Vineyards is on a big hill and it is quite a trek getting to the top, especially if you are in nice clothes. Try to park as close to the area you will be shooting at as you can and save yourself the hike, and if you will be wearing dress shoes, wait to change into them until you get to your destination.
