“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.”

-Ted Grant

For this session I wanted to do something a little bit dramatic.

There is something timeless about black and white, and I love love love a timeless photo. That is one of the reasons I shoot film. 🙂 With color photography, it’s true, your outfit and the background really influence the way your photos look and feel, which is awesome and fun and introduces so much creativity.

However.

Black and white really puts the person being photographed front and center.

I got the idea to do a series of compelling black and white film portraits (really, the idea got me) and these images of Juliann are the first shots for it. While this is currently a personal project for me, I think these black and whites would be great for headshots, or for anyone who wants a really timeless portrait.

I think the results are stunning and I’m quite proud of these images. I hope will become heirloom’s for Juliann’s family for many years to come.

Wow! You should consider more black and white, it's undeniably obvious that you are quite gifted in this as well.

I am also a film photographer. Thank you for your commitment to film. Digital has a well deserved place for sure but there is something about film that cannot compare. I enjoy shooting color, but for "only He knows why" God keeps me grounded in the black and white, so I am content to keep doing what I do.

I was actually searching for other photographer's work for inspiration and I definitely found it. Your lighting is beautiful! I think you have what you set out for - a little drama, low key is good for that. I also love how you shot into the girl's personal space just enough to make it just that, personal w/o invading her space. There is much for me to be glean from these images. Thank you. Your boys look really sweet.

p.s. would you guess, my brother and parents also live in the Nashville area, Franklin to be exact... :) Beautiful area.

Today was somewhat of a dreary day, but you’d never know it because of Lucas’ beautiful, light, airy nursery. I so enjoyed meeting his “mama” (as he already calls her…I’m not kidding! Baby genius!) and hearing how her family has ended up where they are now. Lucas was an incredibly good boy and so precious with his big blue eyes that are unique to him because everyone else in his family has brown. Lucky guy!

Today I got to do a quick maternity shoot with my sister-in-law Torrie (and my soon-to-be nephew!) We went to Berry college and it was so so so beautiful.

Torrie – you look beautiful and I can’t wait to meet that little cutie!!!

Absolutely LOVE the shot with Torrie standing against the doors! Love the way her purple dress is picking up the old hardware on the church doors! Just a beautiful! She looks amazing and love the make-up and hair. So pretty! Is she having a boy?

I love sessions like these. A tall, beautiful model with blonde hair and blue eyes combined with lots of time…it was like a vacation!

Kennedy is headed to Auburn next year as an Agricultural Economics major (smart girl!!!). We are so proud of her.

War Eagle Kennedy and congrats on your upcoming graduation!
