A few months ago I had the pleasure of photographing another family session for my friend Courtney.

I photographed their family last year, and since then they have moved to the MOST charming, historic homestead you’ve ever seen. Courtney’s husband Luke is a musician for the band for KING & COUNTRY, so it was awesome to catch them all at home, as they’re so frequently out of town for tour dates and other events these days.

To give you a little bit of backstory, Courtney and I became friends a long time ago. We grew up in the same part of South Florida and were church choir buddies. I can tell you from years of knowing her that she LOVES coffee and emojis and has had just about every hair color there is. She is wild and free at heart and has an enigmatic spirit that makes everyone drawn to her.

We lost touch for a bit after high school, but both of us ended up living in Nashville as adults, and having baby boys within months of each other (twins in my case). One night when I was exceedingly desperate to connect with another living soul outside of my own four walls, I reached out to her on social media to see if she would like to get together for a mom-date.

Since then we have gotten together for mom-dates and baby-parties, trips to lunch, and then eventually playdates. We both got pregnant within months of each other the second time around, again with boys. Crazy.

SO much has happened with her family in the time since we have reconnected. Luke’s band has become increasingly successful, and in 2013 he almost died after an extreme flare of ulcerative colitis. He thankfully is doing much better now. After he started to recover, he and Courtney recorded a duet about the experience. She invited me to one of their shows last year at the Ryman Auditorium and I was lucky enough to see them perform it together live. It was beautiful.

Have some tissues ready!!!

During their session we photographed them inside their home, and spent a good bit of time in their garden, which I have to say is REALLY impressive. While we were out there, we came across some big, fuzzy caterpillars on Courtney’s tomatoes, so she brought her boys Jude and Phoenix over to take a look and see if they wanted to hold them. Luke pointed out that they were going to ruin the plants and she just shrugged and said, “It’s all good! We all help each other.” and put the little caterpillar back on the plant.

THAT is Courtney in a nutshell.

We also stole a few minutes to get some photos of Courtney and Luke alone, and it started raining a bit with the sun still out and it was just magical!

Courtney, it was so good to see you so happy in your new, old, perfectly cozy home. I had the best time and hope to see you guys again soon!

P.S. Chivalry is been something that Luke and his brothers have been championing at their shows; that women (and all people) matter and that they are to be honored and respected. This weekend they released a movie born from those efforts. It is called PRICELESS, and it addresses the subject of human trafficking. I would love it if you would show your support and visit http://PricelessTheMovie.com and go see it in a theatre near you!

This at-home photo session of the Ward family took place in their Murfreesboro, TN home. Mom Autumn had a great vision for how she wanted her portraits to look, and she even painted her bedroom white while 8 months pregnant (!) because she loves a light and bright look. Baby Henry came a bit sooner than planned, but was thankfully perfectly healthy and precious as can be.

I LOVE doing newborn sessions at clients homes. It is so much more relaxing for everyone, especially since newborn sessions can be a bit time consuming. This family also has a toddler, and it was great for big brother to come and go as he pleased and hop in photos when he felt like it. When he got tired he could wander into the kitchen for a snack and we just easily shifted gears into photos with mom and dad or baby alone.

From Autumn:

“Leanne came into our home, put us all at ease and was so gracious with us being a little out of sorts due to the recent arrival of our second son— we had been home less than a week when we had her capture our family. We are so so so pleased with our family & newborn session. Thank you Leanne!”

This session was to commemorate little Jack turning 6 months old. They have always made baby sessions a family affair which I absolutely love!

Photographing the family here in the house they are building their family in makes these images super personal and special for them. Since it was warm out and our last session was inside the house, we decided to head outside for this one.

Isn't this the sweetest thing ever?! I am so glad we captured this adorable brother-sister moment. Isn’t this the sweetest thing ever?! I am so glad we captured this adorable brother-sister moment.

They had some gorgeous white hydrangeas growing out front so we stopped for a few shots in front of them.

Then we moved to the backyard where we found some nice shady spots for family portraits. Baby Jack is happiest in the morning, so we held this session at 8am. I am happy to accommodate all sorts of schedules, and being a baby and child photographer I realize that sometimes that means early mornings! Let me know if you would like to book a morning session for your baby!

This is an awesome age, when babies can sit up, but not get into anything or run away from the photographer! Haha! I had the honor of shooting Kendra and Craig’s big baby announcement this past fall, and I was so excitied to shoot her maternity photos as well. I can’t wait to meet that sweet baby boy!

Sweet little Dalton is my newest nephew. He was the most relaxed newborn I’ve ever seen, he preferred to just let his legs stretch straight out and chill, and I don’t recall hearing him cry at all! We did this entire session at his home in Georgia – another peaceful in-home session. 🙂

As a mama who has had a few rough c-sections myself, I knew exactly what Elissa wanted when she said she wasn’t ready for photos of herself yet and that she really just wanted to capture Jackson by himself and with his sister while he was still this small.

We did this session in their apartment while everyone stayed comfy and away from germs, it was so relaxing!!!

This session was also featured on Little Bellows here, which I am super pumped about!

When Lauren contacted me about doing an in-home lifestyle newborn session for baby Jack I was super excited. Usually I have to convince people to let me shoot in their homes! Well, let me tell you, it is no wonder because their home is STUNNING and magazine-worthy AND her husband James built it!

I also loved that when I pulled up everyone in the family was ready and willing to have their photos taken. I love when newborn sessions include everyone!!! I can’t wait for this cutie’s 6 month session 🙂

Nate is an old buddy of mine from high school who went to MTSU before we arrived here. He contacted me about taking some portraits for an upcoming trumpet demo CD he is making and of course I said “yes”!

It was super fun being creative and stepping outside of the box and getting creative for this shoot and I cant wait to hear how the album comes out!

Today is World Prematurity Day and in honor of that, I want to share a bit about my friend Mellisa and her adorable baby boy. Jack was born at 32 weeks and was two months old in these photos!

Their family went through so much to get Jack here. Mellisa has always been so brave and open about her struggles with infertility and that is something I admire so much about her! From Mellisa:

“Both of our children were conceived thru in-vitro fertilization. Our seven year old is biologically ours, but Jack Henry is an adopted embryo. We found out with further testing (while trying to add to our family) that scientifically speaking, our oldest shouldn’t be here. My eggs were never viable, and science can’t explain her. Although adoption was always something we were interested in, the desire to be pregnant was still so strong for me. So, we spoke with our doctors, and decided to adopt an embryo. Jack Henry was created from two amazing strangers, who selflessly donated so that we could grow our family. Although Jack is adopted, I was able to have the amazing experience of growing him inside my womb. What an incredible blessing. I felt him move, I heard his heart beat, and watched him grow.”
