Frequently Asked Questions

Nashville Baby & Family Photographer

Find the answers to some common questions about your Nashville-area photo session with Leanne Vice Photography.

General

“What should we wear?”

What I recommend is to pick a 3–5 color palette to work with and stick with it. Putting everyone in the exact same color is too matchy, but you want to have some consistency. Textures and layers photograph beautifully, and it is always a good idea to coordinate rather than match.

“Should I bring anything?”

For family and/or children photo sessions: outfit changes for children in diapers, a non-staining drink, and a non-messy treat or snack. If you bring a toy or stuffed animal, make sure it is something you don’t mind being in a few photos!

“How long does the photo session last?”

Most family, baby and maternity sessions are 1 hour (but can go up to 2 hours if we need extra time) and more posed newborn sessions are typically about 3 hours. Wedding packages start at 8 hours of coverage.

“How much does it cost?”

Portrait sessions start at $175 and wedding packages start at $1,750. For more information or to book your session, contact me.

Newborn

“When should I schedule a newborn session?”

I encourage parents to reserve your newborn session before your baby is born. Newborns are usually photographed within the first two weeks of life, so booking early ensures you a spot. Once your session is reserved, I’ll make a note of your due date and when baby arrives, we’ll set your session date and time. Even if your baby is already born, don’t hesitate to ask — I may have last minute availability and it is NEVER too late to get photos taken of your baby.

“Why do you photograph newborns within the first two weeks of life?”

First, the purpose of a newborn session is to remember the phase when they are brand new… they will never be this tiny again. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush of having a new baby, and those first sleepy, curly days pass in a blink. If your baby is older, feel free to ask anyway — every day they grow a little more, and each new phase has its own amazing qualities. It’s never too late to photograph your baby!

“How long will my newborn photography session take?”

Generally, lifestyle sessions last 1–2 hours and posed newborn sessions will last about 2–3 hours. I don’t rush and I always follow baby’s mood and provide a relaxed and calm atmosphere.

“Where will the session take place?”

Newborn sessions can take place either at your home or at my home studio in Murfreesboro, TN. I provide everything for your session, including blankets, wraps, and minimal props, all in soft, neutral tones. Some families like to step outside for their family shots, weather permitting.

“Do you take pictures of the family as well?”

Of course! I welcome and encourage parents and siblings to be included in the session.

“What should we wear for the family portrait portion of the newborn session?”

Soft, neutral colors help keep the focus of the images on you and baby. I suggest sticking to shades of white, tan and grey.

“Do we need to bring props or accessories to the session?”

No. I provide soft blankets, simple wraps and headbands, and minimal props if you wish to use them, but mostly I like to keep it simple and really focus on baby.

“Do you have a Baby’s First Year plan?”

Yes! I love watching your baby grow over that first year! For this package I offer 5 sessions for the price of 4 (you can space the sessions at whichever intervals you’d like!), and include 25 complimentary birth announcements and 25 complimentary 1st birthday cards.
